Workshop Room

In our new store location, Self Connection has built a workshop/conference room facility that is available for rental by customers, teachers, schools, healers, organizations, agencies, or anyone wanting to present a worksohp or information session  This facility is a natural extension to the books, cds and dvds we offer in the retail area of the store because it provides another level of information from experts in the various topic areas of the store.   It allows customers to participate in live presentations and to instantly have access to the material recommended by these experts.     

The workshop room itself is approximately 650 sq feet and holds up to 50 attendees seated in chairs theatre-style.   On-site are 50 chairs and 8 tables so that presenters have a variety of options in terms of how to use and setup the room .  For instance, the room can be configured with just chairs (theatre-style, circle, horseshoe, etc), or can be set up in a classroom fashion with attendees at tables, or can be used empty (no tables or chairs) for attendees to sit on the floor.    Note that the flooring is a special vinyl that has the appearance of maple-colored hardwood.  It is attractive but also very durable and easy to clean.   Also available are a flip-chart stand and whiteboard. 

The room comes complete with a kitchen and two washrooms.   The kitchen includes a full-size refrigerator, coffee makers, dishwasher, toaster over, and microwave oven.  The intent is not to be a full catering service, but to provide enough for attendees to be able to use the kitchen for refreshments and snacks or even light meals (cold sandwiches, soups, coffee, etc).   By June 2010, there will be a restaurant next door called Notables that will serve lunches and dinner.   Users of the workshop room will be able to reserve seats ahead of time in the restaurant or Notables will take orders and deliver for people wanting to stay in the workshop room itself.   Otherwise, there are sit-in restaurants within walking distance or take-out providers.    A complete listing of the options can be supplied by Self Connection upon request.

Self Connection expects the room to be used for educational sessions on health,  spirituality and self development in either of the following formats:

  1. live, on-site, presentation to an in-house audience;
  2. live presentations delivered over the Internet to an on-line audience.

Self Connection will manage the facility.   We will set up the room to your specifications so that when you arrive it is ready for you.    We will also help to promote your presentation via our website and electronic newsletter as well as printed posters at the front of the store in our vestibule area (presenters are responsble for providing the printed copy).   Self Connection will also soon have functionality on this page of our website that will display the full schedule of availability.  Before that is up and running, it is necessary to fill out the application form on the left side of this website page and submit it for us to review.  Note that Self Connection reserves the right to select only those applicants that it deems are a fit to our vision of the workshop room.  We will not rent it for sales pitches, multi-level marketing recruiting campaigns or for topics that we do not think are appropriate.

The Workshop Room is equipped with

-          6 x classroom size tables (72" x 18") plus 2 x big tables (8' x 3')

-          Surround sound speaker system
-          Hi-definition video projection (connect from your laptop)
-          Blue-ray DVD player
-          High speed internet access for the presenter(s)
-          Wireless internet access for the attendees
-          Ability to broadcast presentations onto the Internet (webcast)
-          Ability to receive web broadcasts and to display them to the audience  
           (for out-of-town speakers to connect electronically)
-          High quality webcam
-          Wireless microphones
-          Skype account for accessing remote presenters by phone or video/phone
-          Ability to record a webcast presentation
            (for download by customers not able to attend live presentation)
-          Multi-media playback (video, audio, any form of document)
-          Access to SCB’s digital audio and video libraries
